Scholarships and Fellowships

On the membership form, we solicit gifts for the William R. Robertson ’34 Cornell Club of New Hampshire (CCNH) Scholarship Fund and/or the Cornell Club of New Hampshire - William R. Robertson New Hampshire Cornell Tradition Fellowship. In order to assist you in making your decision to donate and encouraging you to donate, we have included a description of what they are below.

Both, the Scholarship Fund and the Tradition Fellowship, were established in 1988 by the CCNH in honor of Bill.  They both benefit students from New Hampshire community.

And now, for how they differ…..

William R. Robertson ’34 CCNH Scholarship Fund

Students apply for the scholarship virtually by being eligible for financial aid.  There is, however, no formal application for the William R. Robertson '34 Cornell Club of New Hampshire Scholarship.  The selection criteria are that the students have need and that they are from the NH community.  Up to 3 students are chosen each year by the University, based on need.  The same students do not receive the scholarship each year, unless they are in most need.

CCNH - William R. Robertson New Hampshire Cornell Tradition Fellowship

The Cornell Tradition program is a selective program for students.  The students must excel in service and leadership and have a GPA of at least 2.5.  The Cornell Tradition chooses the students.

Students who are eligible for the CCNH - William R. Robertson '34 Cornell Tradition Fellowship do apply to the Cornell Tradition Program.  As noted, this program has other criteria that must be met such as academic, leadership, and volunteer/community service.

There is one student each year that receives $4,000.  Part of this award is supplemented by payout from other funds because the CCNH-Robertson Cornell Tradition Fellowship payout is less.  This student likely would be renewed as long as they remain eligible for financial aid and meet the requirements of the Cornell Tradition Program.

William R. Robertson '34

Bill merits distinction as a charter member of Cornell University Council in 1951 and continues his involvement as a lifetime member.  From 1959-1961 he served as the Council's chair and president of its Administrative Board.  He has been a member of the Board of Trustees since 1966, trustee emeritus since 1981, and a Presidential Councilor since 1982.  He founded the Cornell Club of New Hampshire and served as its president from 1976-1986 and as its treasurer.  During the Cornell Campaign, he served on the Student Aid Committee and the City Campaign Committee.  Bill is a former national chair of the Cornell Fund and chaired the Planned Giving Committee from 1965-1970.  He has been active on the advisory councils of the Johnson Graduate School of Management and the College of Human Ecology, and since 1966, has served as president of the Class of '34.
