A Message from the President
Dear New Hampshire Alumni, Parents, and Friends:
On behalf of the Cornell Club of New Hampshire, welcome to our 2006-2007 fiscal year! Please join us as we continue our efforts to expand our network of members and to bring you diverse and high quality programming!
In order to best serve the various areas of the State, we are continuing to solidify our network of Regional Planners. The regional planners participate at Board meetings and organize a minimum of two alumni events each year in their region. This allows us to bring events closer to home for our alumni and to increase the opportunities for participation in events, If you have any suggestions for events, or for how we may do things better, or if we did something particularly well, please E-mail me or any of the Board members. Each of the Regional Planner welcomes your input and involvement!
One question asked from time to time is “what does the Cornell Club do and why should I join?” The “simple” answer is that CCNH serves several very important functions. Among the things we do are: 1. strengthen the ties and network between alumni by providing events and programs of interest to our members; 2. serve as a liaison between the University and prospective students by meeting applicants through CAAAN (Cornell Alumni Admissions Ambassador Network); 3. provide Book Awards to public high school juniors; and 4. raise scholarship funds for current New Hampshire students.
We also continue to welcome any alumni interested in sponsoring a Book Award at their local high school. Currently, we collect $10.00 per school for Strunk & White’s Elements of Style (hardcover) to help expand this program.
Among the events planned for the summer-early fall are an outing to the Peterborough Players to see Hobson’s Choice, the semi-annual trip to the Isle of Shoals, the Upper Valley Picnic, and an event in the planning stage in the Merrimack Valley. For the fall, in addition to Zinck’s night, we are all invited to attend the Harvard Tailgate in Cambridge with President Skorton! This is a wonderful opportunity to meet our new President and cheer the football team on to victory with the alumni in the Northeast.
If you are interested in volunteering, we are always thankful to have more CAAAN participants! We would also welcome the assistance of a Scholarship Chair and Regional Planners for the Lakes Region and Merrimack Valley. Trust me, if you have an interest in volunteering, we will welcome you with open arms!
The other question I am frequently asked is “what do my dues cover?” Although we are a non-profit volunteer organization, our dues pay for: communications with our members and all 1600 NH alumni; support of CAAAN, including Book Awards; Alumni Federation Dues; donations to the Scholarship Funds and also subsidize the events we bring to you. If you are not already a member of CCNH, please consider joining. If you already are a member and know of fellow alumni who have not yet joined, please, encourage him or her to join as well!
Enjoy the summer!
