Dear the Cornell Club of New Hampshire:

Hello, my name is Kati and I am a senior at Cornell this year. I want you to know that I am especially grateful to have been granted this scholarship. I am from Canaan, NH, approximately one half-hour from Dartmouth University. In Canaan I grew up with two sisters, a brother and two loving parents. I actually ended up at Cornell by gut feeling and have never regretted the decision. I have managed to have a lot of fun while absorbing as much from my professors as possible. This summer I actually went to Argentina with my advisor and Professor Sue Kay. I spent two weeks collecting gabbros and basalts from the kilometer 114 ophiolite located in western Argentina, about two hours from the Andes Mt. Range. The remainder of this year will be spent attending classes and writing my senior thesis, focusing on the samples I collected this summer. I will be analyzing the samples I collected to decipher where the ophiolite (ocean floor flipped onto land) came from. I will be using instruments such as the electron microprobe, neutron activator, and polarized microscope to conduct my research. Well, that is what I am up to this year. I thank you again for your generosity.

Sincerely,

Kati
